Check the audit trail in Case Matters

Audit Trail provides a complete, searchable log of every change someone's made on a case, including who made it and when.

From Audit Trail, you can get a complete, searchable history of all changes anyone has made to a case in Case Matters. This helps you to understand exactly what's changed, who made the change, and when it occurred, supporting compliance, oversight, and dispute resolution across your caseload.

Access and use Audit Trail

To access and use Audit Trail, watch our video or follow the steps below:

  1. Open the relevant case in Case Matters.

  2. Click Audit Trail.

  3. From the All list, select your required view:

    • Field Changes: All field-level changes recorded on the case.

    • Tasks: All task activity recorded on the case.

    • Table iteration: Changes made to fields within iteration tables on the case.

Filter the audit trail

Each view has filter controls to help you quickly locate relevant entries. You can filter across all time periods, specific users, and particular actions, or search for specific events by typing keywords such as deleted or created.

Here are the available filters:

  • Time: All Dates, Today, This Week, This Month.

  • Users: All users, or specific users.

  • Action: All actions, Deleted, or Task created.

  • Keywords: Type words related to the event you're looking for, for example, deleted or created.

View changes

Field changes

  1. Within the relevant case, click Audit Trail.

  2. From the All list, select Field Changes.

  3. Apply the filters to locate the required entry.

  4. To expand the entry, select the entry.
    ​

Task changes

  1. Within the relevant case, click Audit Trail.

  2. From the All list, select Tasks.

  3. Apply the filters to locate the required entry.

  4. To expand the entry, select the entry.

  5. Review the task description, user, date, and time of the action.

The Audit Trail automatically records tasks such as deadline reminders, creating a complete chronological history of activity on the matter.

Table iteration changes

  1. Within the relevant case, click Audit Trail.

  2. From the All list, select Table iteration.

  3. Apply the filters to locate the required entry.

  4. To expand the entry, select the entry.

  5. Review the field name, previous value, new value, user, date, and time of the change.

This view applies specifically to fields within iteration tables, rather than standard case-level fields.
